This coffee is the result of a joint venture amongst an array of smallholder coffee growers in Colombia. The coffee in this lot comes from producers located in Narino, Huila, Tolima and Quindio. Only coffees with a microlot cup quality were selected for this lot. The idea behind this project is to pool coffee from growers who would otherwise not have enough volume to sell their best quality coffees separated from their main lot, which would usually sell on the commercial market.
This microlot is 100% Castillo. This variety was developed by the Federacion Nacional de Cafeteros. It is more productive than Caturra and resistant to coffee leaf rust. The improved leaf rust resistance is a result of Castillo having a more complex genetic structure which makes it more difficult for leaf rust to attack.
